Friday, Oh Friday

Now I've hung the laundry to dry, cleaned the bathroom, cooked dinner (ugnspankaka) and now I am waiting for my Beau to come home from the gym and for the lovely weekend to start.
I've lit candles in the whole house (we still have a ton left from the wedding that needs burning) and I'm listening to Lex Buckley and other Worship Songs

Revelation Song - Gateway Church

Oh, now I can hear his car coming in the driveway. Finally, I was getting really hungry.

quotes of the day

"True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring."
Marin Luther King Jr.

should, must, could, would

I need to start reading now. Have a book that is about 300 pages that I need to finish this weekend and then write a book review on. And then I need to get started on the next essay.

Got a job today though, 2 days next week only, but it could be interesting. I am apparently supposed to call people in Norway to check whether they have been satisfied with a product that's been sold to them.

Andreas is at Floorball (innebandy) but I think I'll get into bed with a cup of tea and start reading that book.

And here is just something that might make you smile:

We are hopefully going down to the "farm" behind the ice rink this weekend to see if there are any kittens on the way... Can't wait to have a little hairball running around in our apartment.

work work work...

So I am currently looking for job opportunities like a maniac. Of course a position as a Junior HR administrator would be ideal, but I am not expecting it to fall into my lap. So I've started applying for other opportunities as well just to make sure that I have a job when I am done studying, and then I will just have to continue applying while at that temporary job.

But today a lady called me at about 11am this morning. Apparently, she had found my CV on one of the many job seeking sites I've registered with and because of my "language skills" (Danish, Norwegian, Swedish) she wanted me to come in for an interview tomorrow. So perhaps I will get a part-time job tomorrow, who knows. It would make Andreas happy, because money is very tight at the moment. But we have always been so blessed. Things always seem to fall into place for us. Tonight, for the first time, someone called who were interested in buying my wedding dress, and this week one of my classmates got a car so now we are commuting in together which is saving me loads of money as well. Maybe I am naive, but I've never felt afraid that we wont make it through a month, things always come together somehow.

I have set myself some goals that I want to do when I am done studying:
1. Driving License
2. Learn French
3. Start Dancing Jitterbug
4. Try Yoga or Pilates

cheese cake and risk

"Hitler never played Risk as a child..." -Eddie Izzard

Today we've played Risk twice (one time this afternoon and one time this evening). It takes about 3 hours per go. It is the first time we've used the game that was given to us as a wedding gift this summer. Yesterday Andreas won, this afternoon Joachim won, and this evening Anita won. And yes, that means that I haven't won once... :(

We also had cheesecake tonight, with fresh blueberries and raspberries. Not so good for my plan to lose weight for the summer, but I'm never on a diet over the weekends... hehe. Maybe not the best strategy, but I like it! :)

Now, we'll probably watch a movie or something like that. Aaah weekends are the best.

my beloved sister is coming tonight

Anita (and her boyfriend Joachim) are coming to England tonight and I jus can't wait to see her. For some reason my family has come to mean more and more to me as I've gotten older, and my mother and father and 3 sisters are all the most precious things in my life. At the wedding it became very real to me just how lucky I am to have such a great family (including Andreas and the in-laws who are also all amazing people).

We're rehearsing for tomorrow's Church Service in two hours and when I get back from that she will be here. Yippie =)

Oh and just so you know... Andreas is cleaning our apartment while I'm writing this... yes, that's right, be jealous :)

it is dead

Just got a "FINAL CHANCE FOR RENEWAL" message from GoDaddy in my mailbox. Our domain, andreasmarianne.com does no longer exist. Our website is still available though on smars.se/marywed, if you want to have a look :)

It is weird to think that its been a year since I was in the middle of all the wedding planning, where the ordering of the dress was easier said than done (thank you so much Heather for helping us out), ordering ribbons from the States, and bridesmaids dresses from China. It was quite a circus but it was so much fun. I almost want to do it again... almost :)

Although it feels as if it was only yesterday it also feels like ages ago. I've graduated, I've gotten married (we've gotten married hehe), we've moved in together, we bought a new car (the precious Audi), I've started at Reading Uni, we've been to Thailand (yeah baby), and soon we're getting a little kitty...

And in a couple of months I've lived for a quarter of a century, so I guess I'm getting old as well :)

Life is still a bliss, although assignments can be a bit stressful from time to time.

hypersexuality

Excerpt from Natasha Walter's book

"If the rise of pornography was really tied up with women’s liberation and empowerment, it would not be increasing women’s anxiety about fitting into a narrow physical ideal."

"While once someone could live their whole lives without ever seeing anyone but themselves and their own partners having sex, now the voyeur’s view of sex has been normalised, even for children.

For an increasing number of young people, pornography is no longer something that goes alongside sex but something that precedes sex. Before they have touched another person sexually or entered into any kind of sexual relationship, many children have seen hundreds of adult strangers having sex."

"Many women who would call themselves feminists have come to accept that they are growing up in a world where pornography is ubiquitous and will be part of almost everyone’s sexual experiences. I can see why some are arguing that the way forward really rests on creating more opportunities for women in pornography, yet I think it is worth looking at why some of us still feel such unease with the situation as it is now.

I do not believe that all pornography inevitably degrades women, and I do see that the classic feminist critique of pornography is too simplistic to embrace the great range of explicit sexual materials and people’s reactions to them. Yet let’s be honest. The overuse of pornography does threaten many erotic relationships, and this is a growing problem. What’s more, too much pornography does still rely on or promote the exploitation or abuse of women. Even if you can find porn for women and couples on the internet, nevertheless a vein of real contempt for women characterises so much pornography."

What do you think? Has our society become hypersexual? Is intimacy in relation to sex outdated?

Avatar vs Pocahontas

I saw this and found it funny. Basically arguing that the Avatar plot is like Disney's Pocahontas.

Now I need to get out of bed and start making breakfast. Not that I am hungry, but we have a guest today and maybe he is :)

And then I need study in the afternoon. So that's my day all planned out.

art

I am currently hunting for art for our apartment. It is very difficult to find something I like at a reasonable price. And It is extremely annoying when you find something pretty and then it's either too expensive our doesn't fit in any of your rooms.

Here is my latest find that I really want but is a bit to pricey:

www.coulsonmacleod.com, Love Collection
55cm x 55cm x 8cm - £149.00

I recently bought an old map from ebay, now I just need to go to Ikea and get a frame for it.

Maybe we can use the gift card we got from Taylor and Filip as a wedding gift...

Now I need to start cooking. Andreas is at the airport picking up Thomas, and I think he's expecting us to eat when he gets back because he was hungry when he left.

Have a nice weekend

tomorrow... school starts...

So tomorrow I have to go on my first journey this term to campus. I have a meeting with my group regarding our assignment which is due next week. I can feel how low my interest is in school matters at the moment, I have NO motivation. It is a bit scary considering I have a really intense period in front of me with many papers due. In addition to that I still haven't been able to work out what I want to write about for my project (the research essay that I am to do during summer) and I haven't figured out what I want to do for a living yet. So much studying and still no job... I think I will have to start asking friends and create some networks so that i can figure out what is out there. Maybe take an internship or two because at the moment, I feel I have little knowledge regarding what is out there...

My computer got infected by some virus this Friday, so I had to reinstall windows, but now everything is working fine again just in time for school to start.

I really want to get my driving licence! I wish I had it already. The driving theory will be the first book I pick up when my studies are done. Just ordered the Highway Code on Amazon. Can't wait! :)

Now, I'll continue on my strategic management book that I should have finished before Christmas and probably doze off with the book on my head... Andreas is already snoring.

song for tomorrow

I am listening to this song on repeat. We are singing it tomorrow in church. The rhythm is different in every verse so we'll see if the congregation will be able to follow.

Yesterday I was unable to get home from London so I got stuck in there for one mroe day. Luckily I could stay with Jonna and her family. So today I went to the British Museum with them in the morning, an exhibition on the Aztecs, it is like the Inka people but in Mexico :) It was itneresting. I love the high ceiling in the middle in the Biritsh Museum. I like museums in general. They make me feel educated - just like sitting in a coffee shop with a scarf, reading a book makes you feel like a student...

Well at least the train left today so I managed to get back home before practice tonight.

The snow is beautiful btw... It feels like being in Sweden, and that makes me happy. I guess I miss it more than I thought.

baby blogger

I read Alex Schulmans previous blog and I've starting reading his new one as well, where he writes about being a father. It is very amusing, and Charlie, his daughter is such a cutie.

I don't know why but this picture makes me smile and wonder why we don't have a baby yet...

I Mean it doesn't get much better does it? Oh well, we are not baby ready yet, but I have to say I am looking forward to the good bits.

For now I can look forward to a little kitten moving in with us in March. We just have to find one. So if you are planning on having kittens or have a pregnant cat, let us know, we are very interested.

Holiday is over

We're back in England, which by the way is covered in snow. I like.
Thailand, Sweden and Denmark was amazing. I can't believe we've had a whole months vacation, it's been pure indulgence. I have probably gained about 3kg.

Pictures will come. I have already tried to upload some to Facebook, but it won't let me upload all of it. But I will keep trying.

We stayed at Khao Lak Sunset Resort. Khao Lak is about an hour north of Phuket city.

Part of the lovely breakfast buffet at the hotel and my choices (croissants, grapefruit, pineapple, papaya, fruitsalad with youghurt, tea, omelet)

The view while eating breakfast

The building we lived in (bottom floor room 6 from the left)

Andreas at one of the tailors.

Andreas had one suit, 7 shirts, and one coat tailor made and I had one coat made that I designed myself. I gave them a drawing and could make alterations along the way.

Laura and Andreas watching the monkeys

Thailand is a place I could go back to any time any day. Absolutely gorgeous.
And you feel like kings and queens there. Next time (because we have decided that there WILL be a next time) we would like to travel around a bit more, get to some more excluded areas with less tourists, and of course I want to see Bangkok.

That's all for now. I need to get back to my books, and Andreas wanted me to go outside and take some pictures of the snow, oh and it's almost lunch, I need to start on that as well... :)
