Pick your own

This evening we will pick our own strawberries at Gray's Farm in Wokingham. The strawberries are yummy now in England, and it is Midsommar after all so we do need fresh strawberries tonight :)

We are a few "Swedes" at work who'll be eating typical Swedish food for lunch today.
New potatoes and pickled herring, strawberries with cream, and some chocolate. Anything to try and catch a glimpse of the midsummer spirit that is in Sweden at the moment.

Business: Success = Meeting the Right People

All of those successful people you see around town, with their convertibles and huge televisions? Approximately 100 percent of them got where they are because they had three things. All three are absolutely essential, but one of them is almost never mentioned. They are:

* Talent
* Hard Work
* Randomly Meeting the Right People and Not Pissing Them Off

The autobiographies of famous people will do everything they can to downplay that third part, because it has the element of sheer luck. People get offended when you mention it, because they think it somehow undermines the first two. But remember, we said you need all three.

For instance, let's take maybe the most successful movie actor of all time, Harrison Ford. He farted around Hollywood for nine years, taking bit parts without anything major ever coming his way. Clearly talented, very hard-working. Yet not once did anybody look at him and say, "This guy will sell several billion dollars' worth of tickets and action figures some day!" He was just another ambitious, pretty face, in a city full of them. He got so fed up, he quit acting and became a carpenter. There's a parallel world without this man as Han Solo, and I don't want to live there.

Then one day he got hired to install cabinets in the home of a guy named George Lucas. They became friends. That got him the role of Han Solo a few years later. That's a true story.

Decades earlier another Ford, Henry, was just one of many engineers screwing around with early car engine designs until he became friends with a wealthy businessman named Alexander Malcomson who forked over the money to get Ford Motor Company started. This also works for guys not named Ford; Justin Bieber was one of several hundred thousand teenagers singing on YouTube videos before a former record exec named Scooter Braun clicked on one of his videos by accident and got him a record deal. But everyone already knew he was an accident.

On the other end of the spectrum, you have guys like Edgar Allan Poe, whose legendary poem "The Raven" earned him... nine dollars. He burned so many bridges he wound up basically begging the public for money before dying at 40. At some point Poe probably met his George Lucas, but made such a horrible impression on him the guy wouldn't return his calls. "Oh, shit, honey, he's at the door! Pretend we're not home! Did he see me?"

Midsommar

Nu skulle jag önska jag var i Sverige och åt svenska jordgubbar och grillade i trädgården... ljusa kväller och mysiga varma nätter. Sverige är så underbart på sommaren.

Translation: Sweden at this time of the year is amazing. Wish I was celebrating Midsummer with friends back home today.

Picture from the celebrations 3 years ago.

I'll be going to Sweden for a short period the first week in August to see little Isac and to celebrate Veronica's birthday. Can't wait to walk the streets of Stockholm in summer weather. Walk out to Djurgården and dip my feet in the ocean. I'm so excited.

needs to get this shabby body in shape

It is time to face it! I have hardly been doing any exercise the last 3-4 months, and I can feel and more than anything SEE it. I can barely get my clothes on any more. This has to change! So now a new life style needs to happen in my life. Gym, smaller portions, and walks in the evenings from now on. Until then I'll try to stay positive...

so romantic

I must say this was a love story of the century. Both me and Andreas had tears in our eyes during the ceremony, and it was hard not to think of our own day almost a year ago and the wonderful memories we have from then.

Weddings make me happy.

watching the royal wedding

Now I'll watch the royalties at the wedding. All these amazing dresses.

You can watch it here.

she is growing so fast

Here is a clip of our little Misse when she was just a few weeks old.

I was writing an essay and she kept jumping up on the table to see what I was doing and then she fell in... :)

I'm convinced that we have the cutest cat in the world!

graduation will happen

Got an e-mail from Uni this week confirming that I will be graduating and that I did well on my exams. It was tough to work full time and finish my assignments and study fr all my exams. Can't wait until August when I'll finally get a holiday.
Now I just want to know what the margin looks like so I can figure out how much effort needs to be put into the Research Project.

movie makers' motto?

cleaning music

Whenever I clean the house I need music to keep me awake. This Friday it's Kalemba that's making me move.

Soon the England game is on! : )

I've been stuffing my face with mfufins this morning at work since it's Collete's birthday next week and she brought some goodies for us.

Why are dooughnuts and muffins so tasty and so unhealthy? (most of the time)

dip and football

Just made a dip from the dill in our vegetable garden and in an hour we will watch the match of the day. We've been watching almost every game now since we got the new TV :)

The game yesterday between North Korea and Brazil was fun to watch because the Koreans were so happy and proud to be there. Will be interesting to see if they will even allow the game to be shown in North Korea.

Andrea's birthday gift

He got a new TV - LED 42" and it has been running non stop whilst we've been home since it was put up. World cup has never been so enjoyable as now in HD!

Now we just need to go to IKEA (yeay) and get a tv table for our little Panasonic.

new shoes

There was a staff sale at work yesterday and I got a pair of shoes very cheap. I wish I had gotten another pair but people were like crazy grabbing everything they could get hold of. Next time I'll try to be one of the first int here.

The shoes are really good and I love that I can wear them to work. So nice to have trainers on in the office.
